You have probably heard about Invisalign and its many advantages. Indeed, it is discreet, effective, and convenient! But what exactly does the process involve? You might be curious about what you can expect throughout your journey to a straighter smile. In this blog post, you will learn about the basic steps that await you.

Consultation & Treatment Planning

Your Invisalign journey begins with a comprehensive consultation. Dr. Thomas and our team will evaluate your teeth and discuss your goals for treatment. You will also undergo digital scans, which give us a precise view of your bite and aid in treatment planning.

With the help of advanced technology, Dr. Thomas will create a custom treatment plan that maps out each stage of your tooth movements. You will have the opportunity to see a virtual preview of your expected results before you decide to proceed.

Wearing Your Aligners

Technicians in an Invisalign laboratory will use the data from our team to fabricate your custom series of aligners. Once they are ready, you will come back to our office so you can pick them up and get detailed instructions on how to use and care for them.

You must wear your aligners for 20 to 22 hours each day to ensure the best outcome, so you should make it a habit to remove them only when you eat, drink anything besides plain water, and care for your oral hygiene. You should wear each set of aligners for around two weeks before you move onto the next set.

Check-in Appointments

Throughout your treatment, you will attend regular check-in appointments with our team. These brief visits allow us to monitor your progress and make any necessary adjustments. We may also provide you with tips on how you can make your treatment successful.

If we determine that your treatment plan needs refinements, we may need to take new images of your teeth and order different aligners.

Maintaining Your Results with a Retainer

After you have completed your aligner treatment, you will transition to wearing a retainer. Retainers are essential for keeping your teeth in their new positions and preventing them from shifting back. You should wear your retainer full-time at first (for the same amount of time that you wore your Invisalign aligners). Eventually, you may need to wear it only at night.
